Chanderi is a handloom fabric from Chanderi in Madhya Pradesh, woven for centuries on pit looms. Every piece in this collection is hand block printed by our own artisans in Bagru, near Jaipur, using hand-carved wooden blocks and skin-friendly natural dyes. The blocks are pressed by hand, one repeat at a time, across the full length of the cloth.

Chanderi is an unforgiving cloth to print. It is fine, it is smooth, and a block laid carelessly shows immediately. That skill is also why you will find small irregularities — a faint join where two impressions meet, one motif slightly deeper than its neighbour, a subtle shift in colour along a length. These are the marks of a natural dyed, hand-printed textile. They are not flaws, and they are not something to apologise for. A screen or digital print would be flawlessly uniform, and it would look it.

Stitching Your Chanderi Suit

Because Chanderi is fine and a little sheer, most customers have the top lined with a soft cotton or mul. Ask your tailor to line the body and leave the sleeves unlined if you want to keep the lightness. The dupatta is worn as it is — the transparency is part of the fabric's character.

The 2.5 metre bottom is enough for a churidar, a straight salwar or palazzos. Some colour will release in early washes. That is the natural dye settling, and it eases. Do not bleach or tumble dry.
